Spathoglottis plicata
Description:
Philippine Ground OrchidOrchidaceaeNative to tropical and subtropical Asia; naturalized in the Hawaiian Islands on most of the Main Islands of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lnai, Maui and Hawaii Island.Oahu, Hawaii, USA. These terrestrial orchids pop up here and there in Hawaii landscape. They are not native to the Hawaiian Islands. This particular plant is a volunteer as is often the case and, for what it's worth, is monitored regularly so as not to allow more seed to be released and perpetuate plants into our community.**NOTE**While I enjoy orchids, as an environmentally conscious orchid grower in Hawaii, I am proactive when it comes to removing and properly destroying any and all seed pods from the plants so as not to encourage their spreading into our fragile native Hawaiian forests.
