Description:
Description: English: Abactochromis labrosus (formerly Melanochromis labrosus). Fully grown adult male (119.0 mm SL when fresh, 115.0 mm SL as preserved - YPM 15189) collected with trammel and experimental gill nets set in 6-45 meters depth, overnight 24-25 July 1980 at Nkhata Bay, Malawi, off the southern shore of the south bay near emergent offshore rocks, ~75 meters from shore. This is the largest specimen ever collected. The soft, fleshy lip lobes (which are covered with taste buds) are curled back against the head in life; here, the lobes have been moved forward to show their full length. Date: 25 July 1980.
