Description: Family: Bombacaceae Distribution: Native of Indian sub continent, and in Malaysia. Deciduous trees up to 20 m tall, trunk and branches armed with prickles. Leaves digitately 5-7 foliate, Flowers bright red crowded at the end of branches. The tree is leafless and looks elegant. Flowers 10-12 cm across, Calyx coriaceous, cup shaped, stamens about 50 in bundles of 5 each. stigma 5 fid. Capsule 10x5cm woody. Photographed at Nellore.
