Description: Salvadoraceae » Salvadora persica sal-va-DOR-a -- from the Latin salvus (whole) and dura (skin) PER-see-kuh -- meaning, of or from Persia commonly known as: mustard tree, salt brush, tooth brush tree • Hindi: मेस्वाक meswak, पिलु pilu • Kannada: ಗೊನಿಮರ gonimara • Marathi: khakan, पिलु pilu • Sanskrit: गुडफल gudaphala, पिलु pilu • Tamil: உகா uka • Telugu: గున్నంగి gunnangi.. leaves, opposite, oblong-elliptic to almost circular, 3 x 7 cm, light to dark green, rather fleshy when young, brittle when mature, sometimes with wartlike glandular dots and dense, rather loose hairs; apex broadly tapering to rounded, sharp-tipped; base broadly tapering; margin entire.. inflorescence drooping, panicled, 5-31 cm long.. flowers greenish yellow.. fruit, a drupe, 2.5-5 mm in diameter, globose, smooth, red or white when mature.
