Description:

Description: Leptodermis oblonga 6/2021 Baby Lilac Shrub- (Baby Lilac) Baby Lilac Shrub, Mature size: 2x2’, lilac like blooms, USDA Hardiness Zone 5, Michigan Bloom Week ISO WW24, In Garden Bed R2 for 14.0 YEARS (Wayside). Planted in 2007. Suckers. This spreads rapidly!!! native to northern China. It is a dwarf, mounding, deciduous shrub that grows to 12-18” tall and flowers throughout much of the growing season. Fragrant, tubular, violet-purple flowers in a late spring bloom (4-6 weeks), followed by reduced and intermittent flowering on new wood throughout the rest of the summer into fall. Severe cut back in 2016. 2020 notes: shrub looks exceptionally heathy this year. Only a few blooms by mid September, but it looks like there is more to come. Have culled this plant back several times over the years. Nice dwarf shrub for the garden as long as you cull back the suckers. Photo by F.D.Richards, SE Michigan.
