Description: Chrysanthemum x morifolium (China native) Photo: F.D.Richards, SE Michigan, 11/2020 - Upright Garden Mum , krih-ZAN -thuh-mum mor-ih-FOE -lee-um, Mature size: 3x3’, Rusty or farmhouse Red, USDA Hardiness Zone 5, Michigan Bloom Month 10-11, In Garden Bed Y1 for 15.3 YEARS (Mystery). Planted in 2005. Most garden mums are hybrids from species native to Russia, China, Korea and Japan. Early hybridization occurred in China around 500 A.D. Tried cutting back for a couple of years. Now I just let it go. Blooms really late here in Michigan, usually late October, early November. Limited blooms in 2018 because of several October frosts. One of the most hardy and aggressive mums that I own. Gifted to me from a women that bought several dahlia tubers in 2005. Splays without support. Will survive a couple of frosts.
