Description:
Description: Lakota's call the Prairie Turnip "Timpsula" (Psoralea esculenta). Another common name used is breadroot. It can be found in high quality mixed grass prairies. The starchy tubers of the prairie turnip/breadroot/timpsula were dug up and stored as an important food source. In the Lakota language, the month of June is called tinpsila itkahca wi, meaning the moon when breadroot is ripe. Photo: Tom Koerner/USFWS. Date: 18 June 2011, 09:09.
