Pippies, alive, alive-o

Image of Plebidonax Iredale 1930

Description:

Description: English: Pippies (Plebidonax deltoides) in their shells for sale at a fishmonger in Blacktown, Western Sydney, NSW, AU. They are stored on a bed of ice which is visible in the top of the photograph, along with a sign that reads "Live Pippies / Product of Australia / $19.99 kg". Photograph has been modified post-capture to obscure the vendor's branding, and cropped for composition. Shells are roughly triangular with a pericostracum that varies from olive green to yellow ochre or brown. The coating is eroded in places to reveal pink-mauve colour underneath. Spelling: pippi or pipi (sing.), pippies or pipis (pl.). Date: 3 January 2020, 15:09:22. Source: Own work. Author: Pelagic.
