Description:
Ancyromonas (ank-ire-owe-moan-ass), small heterotrophic gliding flagellate, with two flagella of which only one (the recurrent flagellum) is evident here. The recurrent flagellum emerges from behind a bulbous lobe at the front of the cell. Not uncommon, but in cooler locations within the thermal Phase contrast. Material from heated thermal sites of Nymph Creek and Nymph Lake in Yellowstone National Park, photograph by Kathy Sheehan and David Patterson.
