Description: English: Bolas Spider - Mastophora phrynosoma, Julie Metz Wetlands, Woodbridge, Virginia. The Bolas Spiders has an unusual method for prey capture. She creates a sticky ball at the end of a line of spider silk, secretes a moth pheronome and attracts male moths. As the male moth approaches, the female looses her lasso (bolas), and if her aim is true, the male moth sticks to the sticky ball. I was really fortunate to see this spider - they're not common.
