Stem from a thick perennial rootstock, 3-5 dm. high, strigose-villose and more or less glandular upward ; leaves dark-green and shining, nearly glabrous, thick, and somewhat coriaceous, digitate, with 5-7 broadly obovate-cuneate crenate leaflets 3-5 cm. long ; inflorescence open, few-flowered ; bractlets linear-lanceolate, shorter than the lanceolate
sepals j petals yellow, broadly obcordate, 8 mm. long, light-yellow, one half longer than the sepals.
Type locality: [Sierra de las Cruces,] Mexico. Distribution : Known only from the type locality.

Perennial, with a thick, woody, cespitose caudex ; stem ascending, hirsute, less than 1 dm. high, with 1-3 reduced leaves ; basal leaves digitately 5-foliolate ; petioles 1-3 cm. long, hirsute ; leaflets obovate or elliptic-obovate, 1-2 cm. long, coarsely toothed with rounded-ovate teeth, glabrous above and with scattered long hairs beneath, thick ; stipules lanceolate, entire; hypanthium hemispheric, hirsute, in fruit 6-7 mm. wide ; bractlets oblong, rounded at the apex, about 4 mm. long, glabrous or sparingly granuliferous ; sepals lanceolate, acute, 5 mm. long, glabrous or granuliferous; petals obovate, 8-10 mm. long, bright-yellow, retuse ; stamens 20-25; pistils rather few; styles filiform.
Type locality : Mountains above Pachuca, Hidalgo. Distribution: Type locality and vicinity.
