Maximum longevity: 29.2 years (captivity)
Observations: It has been estimated, but unconfirmed, that these animals live up to 30 years in the wild (http://www.demogr.mpg.de/longevityrecords). One captive specimen was at least 29.2 years old when it died (Richard Weigl 2005).
