Lifespan, longevity, and ageing

Maximum longevity: 9.4 years (captivity)
Observations: It has been reported that these animals may live up to 12 years (Bernhard Grzimek 1990), which is possible but unverified. Record longevity in captivity belongs to one specimen that lived 9.4 years (Richard Weigl 2005). Further studies are necessary.
