Lifespan, longevity, and ageing

Maximum longevity: 19 years (captivity)
Observations: Wild cats live up to 16 years. Some estimates suggest they may live up to 18 years in the wild (Bernhard Grzimek 1990), but these are unverified. One wild born female of the *lybica* subspecies was about 19 years old when she died in captivity (Richard Weigl 2005).
