This is the miniature version that grows in rocky meadows and keys to Gilia capillaris. See note under Gilia leptalea ssp. bicolor in the Jepson Manual.
This particular group of plants with a very dark corolla throat from around the Del Mar area seem intermediate between what I've called ssp. leptantha and ssp. hamata. Some edge one way, some edge another, but all seem to have fairly consistent corolla coloration. Perhaps an undescribed subspecies?
