Octopus insularis is a medium sized carnivorous species of octopus(mantle length up to 30cm, weighing up to 10kg(Leite et al 2008)). O. insularis feed on a variety of crustaceans, bivalves, and gastropods and have been observed using poke and crawl behaviors while foraging. Body color changes from yellow to reddish-brown in living specimens. Fecundity is high and paired with small egg size(213,000 oocytes under 1.5mm) and pelagic hatchlings, allowing for a wide dispersal potential. Males reach sexual maturity at a smaller size than females. O. insularis are benthic organisms, residing in the shallow tropical waters of the Southwestern Atlantic Ocean.
