Malpighia cordata Small, sp. nov Leaf -blades ovate to orbicular-ovate, 3-5 cm. long (during anthesis), obtuse, emarginate, or abruptly short-pointed, thinly tomentulose or partially glabrous above, densely tomentose beneath, subcordate or cordate at the base, short-petioled ; cymes long-peduncled, the branches, like the peduncle, densely tomentose ; sepals ovate to oblong-ovate, about 3 mm. long, densely pubescent, the glands full}' one half the length of the sepal-body ; corolla purple, 20-24 mm. wide, the larger petals mostly 9-11 mm. long; drupe not seen. Type collected at Sacoalco, Jalisco, July 16, 1892, M. E. Jones 27 (herb. U. S. Nat. Mus. 236S96).
Distribution : Known only from the type locality.
