Spirobranchus lamarcki (Quatrefages 1866)

Op viskratten en andere drijvende dingen die op het strand aanspoelen vind je vaak kalkkokerwormen. Er zijn allerlei soorten. De grote kokers op de foto zijn van de driehoeksworm, die ook op stenen voorkomt. De kleine gedraaide kokertjes zijn van spiraalkokerwormen. Deze komt ook voor op grote bruinwieren als blaaswier. Ze voeden zich met plankton, die ze met een tentakelkrans uit het water zeven.

You often find keel worms on fish crates and other drifting objects which wash ashore. There are all kinds of species. The large tubes in the picture above are from the Pomatoceros triqueter, which you also find on stones. The small spiral tubes are Spirorbis spirorbis, which are often found on large brown seaweed species such as bladder wrack. They eat plankton, which they filter through a crown of feathery tentacles.
