Die Andenkreischeule oder Koepcke-Kreischeule (Megascops koepckeae) ist eine Art aus der Familie der Eigentlichen Eulen. Sie kommt ausschließlich in Südamerika vor. Ihren Namen trägt sie zu Ehren der Ornithologin Maria Koepcke, die sie in den Kordilleren erstmals beobachtete und sie zunächst für eine Unterart der Peru-Kreischeule hielt. Nach dem Tod von Maria Koepcke bei einem Flugzeugabsturz wurde die Art durch den Ornithologen Gerrit Paulus Hekstra zunächst als Rasse der Choliba-Kreischeule beschrieben, die damals noch der Gattung der Zwergohreulen zugeordnet war. Mittlerweile ist die taxonomische Einordnung überarbeitet worden und die Andenkreischeule gilt als eine eigenständige Art innerhalb der Gattung der Kreischeulen.
Mit einer Körpergröße von etwa 24 Zentimetern ist die Koepcke-Kreischeule innerhalb ihrer Gattung eine mittelgroße Art.[1] Sie hat kurze, aber auffällige Federohren. Das Gefieder ist verhältnismäßig dunkel. Die Körperunterseite weist auffällige Längsstreifen auf. Die Augen sind gelb.
Innerhalb ihres Verbreitungsgebietes ist die Andenkreischeule vor allem mit der Peru-Kreischeule zu verwechseln, die ebenfalls gelbe Augen hat, jedoch kleiner ist. Die Tumbes-Kreischeule ist deutlich kleiner und die Weißkehl-Kreischeule ist auffällig größer und besitzt keine Federohren.
Das Verbreitungsgebiet der Andenkreischeule ist nicht zusammenhängend. Sie ist in den Anden von Nordwesten bis in den Südwesten Perus verbreitet, kommt südlich von Lima vor sowie in einem Berggebiet in Südlima.[2] Es ist bislang nicht bekannt, ob es sich bei der Kreischeule um einen Stand- oder Zugvogel handelt. Ihr Lebensraum sind trockene Waldgebiete an den Andenhängen. Ihre Höhenverbreitung reicht von 2.000 Meter über NN bis über 2.500 Meter NN. Das Verbreitungsgebiet der Koepcke-Kreischeule überlappt sich zu einem großen Teil mit dem des Peru-Sperlingkauzes.
Die Andenkreischeule ist eine nachtaktive Eulenart, die in Bäumen oder Büschen mit dichtem Blattwerk übertagt. Ihr Nahrungsspektrum besteht wahrscheinlich überwiegend aus Insekten. Als Indiz für diese Vermutung gelten unter anderem die verhältnismäßig kleinen Krallen. Über die Fortpflanzungsbiologie ist nichts bekannt.

Koepcke's screech owl was originally described as a subspecies of tropical screech owl (then Otus choliba, now Megascops choliba), and they are now considered sister species. It was named in honor of Maria Koepcke, a German ornithologist who worked extensively in Peru. It has two subspecies, the nominate M. k. koepckeae and M. k. hockingi.[4][5][3]
Koepcke's screech owl is about 24 cm (9.4 in) long. Six individuals of M. k. koepckeae weighed 112 to 127 g (4.0 to 4.5 oz) and three of M. k. hockingi 121 to 130 g (4.3 to 4.6 oz). The nominate subspecies has a whitish gray facial disc with darker speckles and a blackish rim. It has short whitish brows above yellow eyes. The crown is very dark brown with pale brown speckles. The upperparts are grayish brown to dark brown with blackish or dusky streaks and dark barring. The folded wing shows a line of whitish spots. The tail is dark brown with narrow ochre bars and small speckles. The underparts are grayish white and have wide dark brown streaks and irregular bars. The upper breast has a pale brownish ochre wash. M. k. hockingi is similar to the nominate but grayer, and the markings on its underparts are less apparent.[4]
Koepcke's screech owl is found only in Peru. The nominate subspecies has a disjunct range including the northerly Departments of Lambayeque, Cajamarca,and La Libertad; the valley of the Utcubamba River; and small areas of the Departments of Ancash and Lima. M. k. hockingi is found further south, irregularly from southern Junín Department to the Departments of Huancavelica, Ayacucho, and Apurímac.[4]
The two subspecies of Koepcke's screech owl inhabit different landscapes. The nominate uses evergreen forests between 1,840 and 4,500 m (6,040 and 14,760 ft) while M. k. hockingi inhabits dry forest and scrubby areas in intermontane valleys. In elevation it ranges between 1,400 and 3,400 m (4,600 and 11,200 ft) but is usually found below 2,000 m (6,600 ft).[4]
Like most other screech owls, Koepcke's screech owl is nocturnal. Its diet has not been well studied but appears to be mostly insects and might include small vertebrates.[4]
The breeding phenology of Koepcke's screech owl is also essentially undocumented. In south central Peru it breeds in February and March. It is assumed to usually nest in tree cavities like others of its genus but the only reported nest was in a cavity in an earthen bank.[4]
The territorial song of Koepcke's screech owl has been described as "a loud, staccato series of notes with slowing pace and rising volume: ko-ko-ko-ko ka ka KA KAH!". M. k. hockingi's song is similar but is longer and higher pitched. An aggressive song is "a series of quieter short hoots rising and falling in pitch". Pairs sometimes sing in duet.[4]
The IUCN has assessed Koepcke's screech owl as being of Least Concern.[1] Though its population size has not been determined, it is believed to be stable. The species appears to adapt well to highly degraded habitat as long as some trees remain for nesting and roosting.[4]

Maria Koepckes schreeuwuil (Megascops koepckeae) is een vogel uit de familie Strigidae (uilen). Deze uil werd in 1982 als ondersoort van de cholibaschreeuwuil, Otus choliba koepckei door de Nederlandse bioloog Gerrit Paulus Hekstra beschreven en als eerbetoon aan de tien jaar eerder overleden Duits/Peruaanse ornitholoog Maria Koepcke naar haar vernoemd.[2]
De vogel is ca. 24 cm lang en weegt 110 tot 130 gram. Deze soort lijkt sterk op de marañónschreeuwuil (Megascops roboratus), maar is iets groter, lichter op de kruin en heeft rond de nek een lichtbruine waas die ontbreekt bij M. roboratus. Verder komt de marañónschreeuwuil in een ander type leefgebied voor, in droger, lager gelegen bosgebieden. Het oog van Maria Koepckes schreeuwuil is geel en de oogleden zijn donker, de snavel is blauwachtig met een licht uiteinde en de tenen zijn grijsbruin. De ondersoort M. k. hockingi is meer grijzig en heeft op de keel en borst een dichter patroon van stippels en strepen.[3]
Deze soort is endemisch in noordwestelijk en Midden-Peru en telt twee ondersoorten:
Het leefgebied is vaak groenblijvend nevelwoud op hellingen van de Andes tussen de 1840 en 4500 meter boven zeeniveau. De ondersoort M. k. hockingi is minder gebonden aan nevelwoud en komt ook voor in bossen in droge gebieden tussen bergruggen.
De grootte van de wereldpopulatie is niet gekwantificeerd Men veronderstelt dat de soort in aantal stabiel is. Om deze redenen staat Maria Koepckes schreeuwuil als niet bedreigd op de Rode Lijst van de IUCN.[1]
