Type locality: Near Copenhagen, Denmark.
Cosmopolitan species.
Limnosaprobic, fresh and brackish waters.
Body fusiform. Head c. 1/3 total length. Trunk with well-marked lateral sulci. Tail prominent. Foot short, 2 pseudosegments. Toes ± 114-115 total length, sabre-shaped, tips slightly outcurved in dorsal view, bases with septum. Rostrum short, narrow, rounded, strongly decurved. Two small, red to black eyespots. Retrocerebral sac long, narrow, with ducts between eyespots. Salivary gland single, left. Gastric glands spherical. Pedal glands large, pyriform, reservoirs extending into toes. Subitaneous egg rounded-ellipsoid, smooth.
Trophi large, stout. Rami broadly triangular at base, tapering to strongly incurved, ventral and dorsal, apical teeth; variable number (5-12) shearing teeth; alulae triangular, placed at a ± right angle to rami. Fulcrum short, c. 1/2-1/3 ramus length, trapezoid in lateral view. Unci single-toothed; tooth almost shaft length; shaft with dorsal and ventral rib and apophyses. Manubria spatulate posteriorly; anterior half with large chamber and lamella. Epipharynx 2 ± straight rods, with serrate expansion proximally.
Length 218-500 µm, toe 50-100 µm; trophi 50-84 µm: ramus 30-40 µm, fulcrum 17-22 µm, uncus 25-26 µm, manubrium 44-56 µm, epipharynx 25-34 µm; subitaneous egg 128x 102 µm. Male similar in habitus to female. Length 300 µm.
Food: ciliates, rotifers and nematodes.
