This mountainous bulb grows in SW Asia. It was considered as a separate species (E. libanoticus), but than united with E. spectabilis. It is common in the heights of Mt Hermon. It has a unique storage organ - a corm that is surrounded by scales (like in a bulb) with a fleshy root cluster. In other words "it did not decide" what is it.

Mt Hermon, 1550 m. on rocky dry slopes. Eremurus spectabilis s one of the first plants to bloom, before the real spring arrives in June.

Mt Hermon is a great escape from the lowlands heat in Israel. Blloming takes place from May until July. Today we enjoyed Eremurus spectabilis populations in full bloom at altitude of 2150m. Many others flowers open over there just weeks after snow melted.

This species is quite common in Armenia. Look how different it is from the Israeli populations (Ishi's picture). Perhaps it should be seperated as 2 species.
