versicolor: variously coloured or changing in colour

Terrestrial herb, 30 - 50 cm. Flowering stem with sheathing leaves; foliage leaves 3 to 5, on a separate sterile shoot. Inflorescence very dense, many-flowered, up to 20 cm long, the bracts often drying black. Flowers mostly pointing downwards, varying from nearly white to deep pink purple and scarlet, lip up to 5.5 mm long, strap-shaped.

Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Angola and South Africa.
