Description

Small shrubby suffrutex, up to 40 cm tall, growing from a woody rhizome and often forming dense patches. Leaves opposite, obovate to elliptic 3-9 cm long, somewhat dimorphic with some smaller and broader, leathery, hairless on both surfaces except for the base of the raised midrib above; veins raised above, more than beneath; domatia absent; margin recurved, entire; petiole 1.5-3 mm long. Inflorescences 1-5-flowered, in somewhat supra-axillary sessile clusters. Corolla white; tube 4-5 mm long, hairless outside and dense hairs in the throat; lobes 5, 4.5-7 mm long. Fruit ellipsoid to subglobose, white turning purple to blackish, 6-8 mm in diameter, crowned by the spreading to upward curving calyx lobes.
