Phragmites australis (Common Reed) is a species of shrub in the family true grasses. They are associated with freshwater habitat. They are native to Africa, United States, The Contiguous United States, Canada, Asia, North America, Europe, South America, and Puerto Rico. They have white flowers. Flowers are visited by Anagnota bicolor, Tipula marginella, Eribolus nanus, and Honey bee. Individuals can grow to 13 feet.
