They are native to Canada, The Contiguous United States, Puerto Rico, and Eastern North America. They have compound, broad leaves, white flowers, and drupes. Flowers are visited by Chauliognathus marginatus, Common Oblique Syrphid, Victoriana parvicornis, and Attagenus piceus. Individuals can grow to 8.2 m.
