Biology

Found in exposed and sheltered littoral areas with a sand or rock substrate (Ref. 4983). Is mainly insectivorous. Trichoptera and Ephemeroptera larvae were in the stomachs of the fish which were examined. Bivalves and gastropods were also found in the samples (Ref. 558).

Haplochromis riponianus is a species of cichlid found in Lake Victoria and possibly in the adjacent reaches of the Nile. This species can reach a length of 10.4 centimetres (4.1 in) SL.^[2]
