體細而延長;頭平扁而長,頭寬比頭高為大;尾細長,尾柄無尾前凹窪;吻長,口前吻長大於口寬,約等於從口裂到胸鰭起點之距離,背視三角形,側視尖而突出;眼大,長橢圓形,前後端各有個三角形缺刻,無瞬膜或瞬褶,距吻端比距第一鰓裂為近;鼻孔小,橫平,伸達外側緣,距吻端比距口裂為近,鼻孔間距比鼻孔約大2.3倍;前鼻瓣三角形,內緣具一短小分叉,入水孔和出水孔均暴露,後鼻瓣後部具一淺半環型薄膜;口裂淺弧形,幾乎平橫,口腔背面及舌黏膜黑色;舌廣弧形,伸達口端,僅前端游離;口側具一斜長深溝;唇褶扁狹,上唇褶稍長,下唇褶稍短;上下顎齒同型,均為單齒頭型,寬扁,近長方形,齒頭外斜,二行在使用;上顎齒較狹小,每側每行20齒,正中齒小,齒頭尖直;下顎齒較大,每側每行15齒;噴水孔大,近背位,內前緣具一瓣膜,能開閉;鰓裂中大,下部轉入腹面,前四個鰓裂約等大,最後一個稍大;盾鱗不重疊,無柄,鱗大小不一,排列稀疏。背鰭二枚,各具一硬棘,硬棘側面具一溝槽;第一背鰭短,起點約與胸鰭前緣中點相對,距吻端約與距第二背鰭約相等,棘長約等於鰭高的3/4;上角鈍圓,後緣淺凹,後角延長尖突;第二背鰭小於第一背鰭,基底長約為第一背鰭基底長的3/4,硬棘起點在腹鰭內緣近後端上方;第一背鰭基底末端到第二背鰭硬棘基部之距離約等於自吻端到胸鰭基底距離;棘長短於鰭高;上角鈍圓,後緣近平直或稍凹,後角尖突;第一背鰭基底末端到第二背鰭棘之基部約等於從吻端到胸鰭基底末端之距離;尾鰭中長,上葉大,後緣有一缺刻,尾端呈斜截型;腹鰭低平,起點距尾鰭起點遠比距胸鰭起點為近,前後緣連續呈半弧形,後角尖而微突;鰭腳短小末端尖突;胸鰭比第一背鰭大,後緣稍凹,外角鈍圓,後角延長尖突。背面鐵灰色;尾鰭上葉、第二背鰭前緣近上角處及鰓裂上方灰黑色,腹面灰白色。

棲地

The little gulper shark (Centrophorus uyato) is a small, deepwater dogfish of the family Centrophoridae.[2]

Physical characteristics

The little gulper shark has no anal fin, two dorsal fins with spines, slightly humped back before the first dorsal fin, darker areas of coloration above gills and on dorsal fins, long free rear tips on pectoral fins, and a notched caudal fin.[3]

Distribution

The little gulper shark lives in the northern Gulf of Mexico, the eastern Atlantic from Spain south to the Cape of Good Hope, the Mediterranean west of Sicily, the western Indian Ocean around Mozambique, Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal around India, and possibly Taiwan.

Habits and habitat

The little gulper is a common dogfish and lives near the bottom between 50 and 1,400 m. They are ovoviviparous with usually only one pup per litter. They eat bony fish and squid.
