North American Ecology (US and Canada)

Caria ino is a year-round resident in the southernmost tip of Mexico and migrates slightly further northward (Scott 1986). Habitats are subtropical thorn forest. Host plants are restricted to two species: tree (Ulmaceae) and Tillandsia caput-medusae (Bromeliaceae). Eggs are laid on the host plant singly. Larvae live in nests of silked-together or rolled leaves. Individuals overwinter as larvae, but cannot freeze. There are multiple flights all year, most commonly Apr1-Nov30 (Scott 1986).
