Plants annual, 20-50 cm tall, glabrous. Stem erect or slightly curved in upper part, simple or laxly branched, nodes swollen in lower part, with few fibrous roots. Leaves alternate, petiolate, lower leaves withering at anthesis, upper leaves crowded, smaller, shortly petiolate; petiole 1.5-3 cm; blades of middle and upper leaves pale green abaxially, dark green adaxially, ovate-oblong, 3-7 × 2-3.5 cm, membranous, with 2 or 3 pairs of stipitate glands, glabrous, lateral veins 5-7 pairs, curved, base cuneate, margin crenate, teeth mucronulate, apex acuminate. Inflorescences axillary, subdivaricate, 2(or 3)-flowered; peduncles shorter or longer than petioles, 2-3 cm. Pedicels 1.5-2 cm, slightly elongate at fruiting, bracteate at base; bracts persistent, linear-lanceolate or linear, 3-6 mm, apex shortly acute. Flowers pink-purple, 2-2.5 cm deep. Lateral sepals 2, ovate-orbicular, ca. 6 × 4-5 mm, 5-9-veined, margin entire, apex mucronulate. Lower sepal narrowly funnelform, 2-2.5 cm deep, gradually narrowed into an incurved spur 2-2.5 cm; mouth oblique, ca. 1.5 cm wide, tip mucronulate. Upper petal suborbicular, 1.2-1.3 cm, slightly narrowed apically, apex retuse, curvedly rostellate, abaxial midvein thickened, conspicuously carinate; lateral united petals ± clawed, 1.8-2 cm, 2-lobed; basal lobes ovate-oblong; distal lobes dolabriform, apex obtuse or emarginate; auricle absent. Filaments linear, 3-4 mm; anthers ovoid, obtuse at apex. Ovary erect, linear, 2-3 mm. Capsule fusiform, ca. 1.5 cm. Seeds 7 or 8, yellow-brown, ovoid-oblong, ca. 2 mm, tuberculate. Fl. Jul-Aug.
