This species, known only from the type, is very similar to Rostraria cristata, differing by its 1-flowered spikelets, produced rhachilla and longer awn.

Tufted annual; culms up to 25 cm high, erect or geniculately ascending. Leaf-blades up to 8 cm long and 3 mm wide, flat, thinly villous above. Panicle oblong or lanceolate, 2.5-4.5 cm long. Spikelets 1-flowered, c. 3.2 mm long; rhachilla produced, shortly hairy; glumes glabrous, acute, the lower narrowly lanceolate, 2.6 mm long, 1-nerved, the upper elliptic, 3.1 mm long, 3-nerved; lemma elliptic, 2.8 mm long, sparsely hairy, acute; awn about as long as the lemma, slightly curved.
