Perennial herb with 25 – 50 cm tall, greenish-pale, slender, sulcate-striate, remote-leaved, sterile and fertile shoots from horizontally creeping, woody, c.5-7 mm thick rootstock, beset with residual petiolar bases. Leaves linear-lanceolate, densely to sparsely hirsute, hairs long, ± patent, basal and lower stem leaves 10 – 20 (-25) cm long, 2 – 3 cm broad, with petioles expanded and half as long as lamina, 3-pinnatisect into many primary and 2 – 5 x c. 0.3 mm, linear ultimate segments, middle and upper stem leaves gradually smaller and sessile. Capitula 5 – 6 mm across, few to numerous, subsessile or on short, densely lanate, upwardly thickened peduncles, densely congested in corymbs. Involucre ± hemispherical, phyllaries ± equal, tightly imbricate, externally greenish, laxly to densely hairy, broadly dark brown scarious-margined, outer narrowly lanceolate, c. 3 mm long, innermost oblong, c. 3.5 mm long, obtuse. Florets hermphrodite, yellow, with c. 3.5 mm long, abruptly much dilated above median part, shortly 5-toothed corolla tube. Cypselas oblong-obconic, 3 – 3.5 mm long, 5-ribbed, brown, epappose.
