General Description

dorsal and ventral body surfaces are a bright cherry red color, some specimens have a purplish or fire-red tinge dorsally. The middle of the head is marked with a pale yellow bar and pale yellow margins. A similar narrow pale yellow band is behind the mouth; 10-12mm posterior to the mouth is a second band twice as thick; 20mm posterior thicker and thinner bands alternate along the body at intervals of about 4mm. Under high power groups of bands may be seen to consist in thurn of very thick, thin, moderately thick, thin and very thick bands in a regular sequence.
