Chinchilla chinchilla (Short Tailed Chinchilla) is a species of rodents in the family Chinchillidae. They are listed as endangered by IUCN and in cites appendix i. They are native to The Neotropics. They are nocturnal herbivores. Individuals are known to live for 120 months and can grow to 305 mm. They have parental care (female provides care). They rely on saltation to move around.
