體高而側扁,外觀輪廓似菱形,頭後背部顯著隆起。腹面自腹鰭至肛門具一肉稜。頭短小,尖突。口小,前位,斜裂。咽頭齒3列,齒式5.4.2-2.4.5。鰓耙數13-17。體被中大型圓鱗。側線完全,沿體側稍下彎而呈淺弧狀直走,側線鱗數50-58。背鰭硬棘
