Anticlea is a genus of flowering plants in the family Melanthiaceae, tribe Melanthieae. Molecular phylogenetic studies in the 21st century have resulted in number of changes to placements within this tribe. Anticlea was long submerged into the genus Zigadenus; however its separate position has been confirmed. Some species were also moved from Stenanthium into Anticlea.[2] (See also Phylogeny of Melanthieae.) Members of Anticlea may also be distinguished from other members of the former genus Zigadenus, the deathcamases, by the presence of narrow tepals with a single, conspicuous, bilobed gland. It also has a wider distribution, occurring in Asia and much of North and Central America, ranging south to Guatemala.[1][3][4][5][6]

The genus name of Anticlea is in honour of Anticlea of Ithaca from Greek mythology, Anticlea or Anticlia was a queen of Ithaca as the wife of King Laërtes.[10]

Anticlea Kunth – rodzaj wieloletnich, ziemnopączkowych roślin zielnych z rodziny melantkowatych, obejmujący 11 gatunków występujących w Rosji (od wschodniej Niziny Wschodnioeuropejskiej do Sachalina), Mongolii, Chinach, Korei i Japonii oraz w Ameryce Północnej i Gwatemali[3].

Rodzaj posiada homonim w taksonomii zoologicznej: Anticlea Stephens 1831 – rodzaj motyli z rodziny miernikowcowatych.

Pędem podziemnym jest wąsko jajowata cebulka. Pęd naziemny wzniesiony.
Liście
Liście odziomkowe i łodygowe wąsko lancetowate.
Kwiaty
Kwiaty obupłciowe lub jednopłciowe, sześciopręcikowe, zebrane w haplokauliczne grono, wsparte równowąsko-lancetowatymi do jajowatymi przysadkami. Okwiat pojedynczy, trwały, sześciolistkowy. U nasady każdego listka obecny jest pojedynczy, dwuklapowy gruczołek wydalniczy. Pręciki wolne lub u nasady zrośnięte z okwiatem, o nitkowatych nitkach i drobnych, kulistych do nerkowatych główkach. Zalążnia częściowo dolna, trzykomorowa, przechodząca w trzy smukłe szyjki słupka.
Owoce
Jajowate do stożkowatych torebki, trójklapowe. Nasiona podługowate lub odwrotnielancetowate, wąsko oskrzydlone lub kanciaste[4].

Systematyka

Rodzaj zaliczany jest do podrodziny Melanthieae w rodzinie melantkowatych (Melanthiaceae), należącej do rzędu liliowców (Liliales) zaliczanych do jednoliściennych (monocots)[1]. Zgodnie z badaniami filogenetycznymi podrodziny Melanthieae rodzaj Anticlea stanowi klad siostrzany rodzaju wartołka (Stenanthium)[5].

Przez wiele lat rośliny te zaliczane były do sekcji Anticlea wydzielanej w ramach polifiletycznego rodzaju Zigadenus[2]. Ponowne podniesienie tej sekcji do rangi rodzaju nastąpiło w 2002 roku na podstawie wyników badań filogenetycznych[6].
