Platypedia minor is known from California and Oregon (U.S.A.) and Mexico. It is found in a variety of ecosystems including intermountain forests, Rocky Mountain forests, California forests, and chaparral and has been associated with oaks (Quercus spp.), baccharis (Baccharis spp.), Pacific madrone (Arbutus menziesii Pursh), willow (Salix spp.), and fruit trees.
