Biology

In Fiji: Cardiocondyla nuda was first described by from Ovalau, Fiji. Since then its name has been erroneously applied to many species of similar appearance, including C. kagutsuchi and C. minutior, both of which occur in Fiji. For a discussion on how to separate C. nuda from other Cardiocondyla in Fiji, see the notes under C. kagutsuchi. Only several specimens of C. nuda were taken during the recent survey, including one that was nesting under a stone.

Distribution Notes

provided by Antweb
The global distribution of C. nuda, as defined by Seifert (2003), is restricted to Australasia and the Pacific Island region. Records of C. nuda previous to the publication, and outside this region, likely refer to close relatives such as C. kagutsuchi or C. mauritanica. Fifty-eight samples with 84 workers in normal print are the basis of the morphological data sets. In further two samples marked with "**", it was not possible to investigate the full character set. These samples could be determined based on PLG and sqPDF and are included in the distribution map.
