Der Gelbbauchbülbül (Chlorocichla flaviventris) ist eine 22 Zentimeter große Vogelart aus der Familie der Bülbüls.

Aussehen

Diese Vögel haben ein olivgrünes Rückengefieder. Die Flügeloberseite ist ebenfalls grün, die Unterseiten der Flügel sind grau. Der Kopf ist grün. Die obere Schnabelhälfte des abwärts gebogenen Schnabels ist schwarz, die untere ist grau. Der Bauch, die Kehle und die Unterseite des Schwanzes sind gelb. Unter den Augen sind lange, dünne schwarze abstehende Federn vorhanden. Männchen und Weibchen unterscheiden sich äußerlich im Gefieder nicht voneinander. Die Jungvögel sind etwas blasser und einheitlich gefärbt.

Verbreitung und Lebensraum

Der Gelbbauchbülbül kommt in Afrika von Tansania bis Namibia vor. Diese Art bewohnt die dortigen Wälder mit dichtem Unterholz, kommt aber auch in der Buschvegetation an den Küsten vor.

Lebensweise

Diese Art lebt paarweise oder in kleinen Gruppen zusammen. Sie suchen meist versteckt im Unterholz nach Samen und Beeren. Manchmal krallen sie sich an die Baumrinde wie Spechte, um dort nach Insekten zu suchen. Wenn ein Feind z. B. Greifvogel oder Hauskatze sie bedroht, rotten sie sich enger zusammen, vollführen Scheinangriffe und vertreiben ihn mit lautem Rufen. Die Lebenserwartung beträgt ca. 3 Jahre.

Fortpflanzung

Während der Brutzeit finden sich die Vögel in kleineren Gruppen zusammen. Das kleine Nest besteht aus dünnen Zweigen, Gras- und anderen Pflanzenhalmen und wird mit Gräsern ausgepolstert. Es wird von den Vögeln gut versteckt im Unterholz angelegt. Das Gelege umfasst 2 Eier. Die Brutdauer beträgt bis zu 2 Wochen. Danach verbleiben die Jungen noch bis zu 18 Tage im Nest.

Unterarten

Es sind drei Unterarten bekannt:^[1]

• Chlorocichla flaviventris centralis Reichenow, 1887^[2] ist im Süden Somalias bis in den Norden Mosambiks verbreitet.
• Chlorocichla flaviventris occidentalis Sharpe, 1882^[3] kommt im Nordwesten Angolas bis in den Westen Tansanias südlich bis in den Nordwesten Namibias, den Norden Botswana, dem Norden Südafrikas und das zentrale Mosambik vor.
• Chlorocichla flaviventris flaviventris (Smith, A, 1834)^[4] kommt im Osten Südafrikas und dem Süden Mosambiks vor.

Chlorocichla zambesiae Shelley, 1896^[5] und Chlorocichla flaviventris ortiva Clancey, 1979^[6] werden heute als Synonyme für C. f. occidentalis betrachtet.

Gefährdung

Aufgrund ihrer weiten Verbreitung und weil für diese Art keine Gefährdungen bekannt sind, stuft die IUCN diese Art als ungefährdet (Least Concern) ein.

The yellow-bellied greenbul (Chlorocichla flaviventris) is a species of songbird in the bulbul family, Pycnonotidae. It is found in eastern, southern and west-central Africa. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, and dry savanna.

Taxonomy and systematics

The yellow-bellied greenbul was originally described in the genus Trichophorus (a synonym for Criniger) and then re-classified within Chlorocichla. Alternate names for the yellow-bellied greenbul include the African yellow-bellied bulbul, yellow-bellied bulbul, yellow-breasted bulbul, yellow-breasted greenbul and yellow-necked greenbul. The latter name is also used as an alternate name by Falkenstein's greenbul. The name 'yellow-bellied bulbul' should not be confused with the species of the same name, Alophoixus phaeocephalus.

Subspecies

Three subspecies of the yellow-bellied greenbul are recognized:^[2]

• Kenya yellow-bellied greenbul (C. f. centralis) - Reichenow, 1887: Originally described as a separate species. Also named the Muanza yellow-throated greenbul. Found from southern Somalia to northern Mozambique
• Zambezi yellow-bellied greenbul (C. f. occidentalis) - Sharpe, 1882: Originally described as a separate species. Found from north-western Angola to western Tanzania south to north-western Namibia, northern Botswana, northern South Africa and central Mozambique
• C. f. flaviventris - (Smith, A, 1834): Found in eastern South Africa and southern Mozambique

El bulbul pechiamarillo (Chlorocichla flaviventris)^[2]​ es una especie de ave paseriforme de la familia Pycnonotidae propia de las sabanas del África subsahariana.

Taxonomía

El bulbul pechiamarillo fue descrito científicamente por el zoólogo escocés Andrew Smith en 1834, como Trichophorus flaviventris. Posteriormente fue trasladado al género Chlorocichla.

Se reconocen tres subespecie:^[3]​

• C. f. centralis - Reichenow, 1887: se extiende desde el sur de Somalia al norte de Mozambique;
• C. f. occidentalis - Sharpe, 1882: se encuentra desde el noroeste de Angola al oeste de Tanzania, por el sur hasta el noroeste de Namibia, el norte de Botsuana, y el norte de Sudáfrica y el centro de Mozambique;
• C. f. flaviventris - (Smith, A, 1834): se localiza en el este de Sudáfrica y el sur de Mozambique.

Koko ja ulkonäkö

Kooltaan idänruskobulbuli on noin 23 cm ^[2]. Lajin pää ja selkä ovat väriltään vaaleanruskeat ja siivet ja pyrstö hieman tummemmat. Vatsastaan ja alaperästään laji on vaalean keltainen. Idänruskobulbulin silmät ovat väriltään punaiset ja niitä ympäröi osittain valkoinen rengas ^[3]

Elinympäristö, elintavat ja ravinto

Idänruskobulbulit elävät metsäisillä seuduilla ja myös ruohomailla usein veden läheisyydessä. Linnut elävät yleensä pareittain tai yksin. Pesänsä idänruskobulbuli rakentaa pensaaseen tai puuhun. Naaras munii yleensä kahdesta kolmeen munaa. ^[3]

Lajin ravinto koostuu suurelta osin siemenistä ja hedelmistä, mutta lintu syö myös hyönteisiä, joita se saalistaa lennossa. ^[4]

Répartition

Cet oiseau vit en Afrique du sud de la République démocratique du Congo et du Kenya jusqu'en Afrique du Sud.

Habitat

Son habitat naturel est les forêts sèches, les savanes sèches et les forêts humides de plaine subtropicales ou tropicales.

Sous-espèces

D'après Alan P. Peterson, cette espèce est constituée des trois sous-espèces suivantes :

• Chlorocichla flaviventris centralis Reichenow 1887 ;
• Chlorocichla flaviventris flaviventris (Smith,A) 1834 ;

Status och hot

Arten har ett stort utbredningsområde och en stor population med stabil utveckling.^[1] Utifrån dessa kriterier kategoriserar IUCN arten som livskraftig (LC).^[1] Världspopulationen har inte uppskattats men den beskrivs som vida spridd och generellt vanlig.^[1]
