Myra fugax is a species of crabs in the family Leucosiidae.[1]

Description

Myra fugax can reach a size of 140 millimetres (5.5 in). Carapace is rounded, globose, with a finely granulate dorsal surface. Chelipeds and legs are long and slender. The color varies from pale pink to pale yellow.[2]

The barnacles of the species Sacculina captiva are parasitic castrators of these crabs.[3]

Myra fugax

Distribution

This species is present in the Pacific Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea, the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean. It is common along the coast of New Caledonia, Israel, South Africa, Egypt, Vietnam, Mozambique, Sri Lanka, India, Mauritius and Fiji.[3]

Habitat

This species is typical of sandy substrates, at depths of 9 to 50 m.[2]

Descrizione

Gli arti sono lunghi e sottili, il carapace è ovale, dalla superficie leggermente granulata[2]. I margini non presentano particolari spine eccetto tre nella parte posteriore[3].

La colorazione varia dal rosato tendente al rosso pallido al giallo chiaro[2].

Distribuzione e habitat

Proviene dall'oceano Pacifico, dal Mar Rosso e dall'oceano Indiano. È comune lungo le coste di Nuova Caledonia, Israele, Sudafrica, Egitto, Vietnam, Mozambico, Sri Lanka, India, Mauritius e Figi[1].

Questa specie tipica dei fondali molli si è diffusa nel mar Mediterraneo passando dal canale di Suez (migrazione lessepsiana) a partire dal 1930.[4]

Non è una specie di acque profonde: difficilmente si spinge oltre i 50 m di profondità[3]; di solito rimane tra i 9,5 e i 26[2].
