Spores pyriform or ellipsoid in valvular view. One subspherical to pyriform polar capsule that opens at anterior apex of spore. One binucleate sporoplasm. Several species histozoic in fresh-water fishes. Type species: Thelohanellus pyriformis (Thélohan, 1892).
