They are associated with freshwater habitat. They are native to Atlantic Ocean, the Palearctic, and Mediterranean Sea. They are solitary, diurnal carnivores. Individuals can grow to 150 cm. They have sexual reproduction. Reproduction is oviparous and semelparous. They rely on swimming and anguilliform to move around.
