脊椎骨:100 - 106。背鰭起點至肛門垂直線之間的距離約為體長的6-12%。與鱸鰻或呂宋鰻之外觀形質及體色相似,其中與鱸鰻的區別或可由上頜骨的齒式來區別,鱸鰻的上頜骨齒呈2列或3列的窄齒帶,外列齒與內列齒間有一個小溝槽區隔,而本種魚的上頜骨齒呈寬而連續的的齒帶;與呂宋鰻則不易區分,與其他熱帶性花色鰻(例如:/A. megastoma/或是/A. interioris/等)鑒別亦相當不容易,尤其是在幼苗階段,因此可以利用分子鑑別的方法,以定序粒線體DNA的序列,對比GenBank資料庫當中的鰻鱺科魚類之序列就可以清楚的確認物種。

The Celebes longfin eel[3] (Anguilla celebesensis) is an eel in the family Anguillidae.[4] It was described by Johann Jakob Kaup in 1856.[5] It is a tropical eel known from freshwaters in the Western Pacific, including Indonesia, the Philippines, New Guinea, and Western and American Samoa. The eels spend most of their lives in freshwater but migrate to the ocean to breed. Males can reach a maximum total length of 150 centimetres.[4]

The Celebes longfin eel is minorly commercial in fisheries.[4]
