One Spot Moray

Plain brown moray that has a distinctive dark ring around each eye that extends backwards as a rectangular blotch and white spots surrounding each mucus pore around the mouth.Description: Characterized by body depth at gill opening 16-20 in TL; origin of dorsal fin above or slightly anterior to gill opening; anus anterior to middle of body; compressed teeth in single row in jaws; without canines; front of upper jaw with three long teeth in inner row; two long teeth in inner row on each side at front of lower jaw; along posterior edge of teeth is serrate (Ref. 90102).

Inhabits surge-swept seaward reefs (Ref. 1602). Mostly found in oceanic islands (Ref 90102).

分布於印度-太平洋區，西起馬爾地夫，東至馬貴斯及土木土群島，北至臺灣，南至巴布新幾內亞等海域。臺灣分布於南部海域。

一般可利用延繩釣、手釣和籠具誘捕等漁法。可食用性。

體延長而呈圓柱狀，尾部側扁。體棕色，眼後有一方形黑斑，其大小如眼徑；下頜兩側有4或5個黏液孔，後鼻孔有一白斑。魚活時眼紅；眼後部黑色；黏液孔四周粉紅；鰭淡棕色。

主要棲息於位於拂浪區內的珊瑚、岩礁的洞穴及隙縫中。以魚類為主食，偶食甲殼類。

The one-spot moray (Gymnothorax monostigma) is a moray eel found in coral reefs in the Pacific and Indian Oceans. It was first named by Charles Tate Regan in 1909.
