描述

體延長,身體前半部較粗,後半部逐漸側扁,肛門位於體中央後方,靠近尾端。吻短,吻端圓鈍,不具唇瓣,口裂不超過眼睛後緣。體長為體高之13.2倍,頭長的5.8倍;軀幹長為頭長之2.7倍;頭長為眼徑之5.5倍,為吻長之4.5倍;頭長為眶間區之4.5倍;肛門前之側線孔80。牙齒為較鈍的圓錐齒,上、下頜齒呈1-2列的規則排列。不具鋤骨齒。魚體無鱗。側線完整,側線孔呈黑色,主要分布在魚體中央。前鼻孔呈管狀位於吻端,後鼻孔較大,開於眼睛前方。舌頭游離。眼睛稍微朝上。背鰭、臀鰭與尾鰭相連。胸鰭發達。背鰭起點對應在胸鰭基部的後方。魚體呈乳白色,稍微有黑色素分布於魚體上。(陳鴻鳴 & 林上智)

Froghead eel

The froghead eel[1] (Coloconger raniceps) is an eel in the family Colocongridae (worm eels/short-tail eels).[2] It was described by Alfred William Alcock in 1889.[3] It is a marine, deep-water dwelling eel which is known from the Indo-west Pacific, including East Africa, Madagascar, and southern Japan.[2] It dwells at a depth range of 300–1134 metres. Males can reach a maximum total length of 50 centimetres.[2]
