Total scutes 30 to 32; vertical striae on scales continuous or overlapping, numerous small perforations on hind part of scale. Distinguished from S. zunasi by having more lower gill rakers and a deeper body; from S. hualiensis by the absence of black tips to its caudal and dorsal fins; from S. fimbriata and S. albella by the continuous striae on its scales.

Sardinella richardsoni (Richardson's sardinella) is a species of ray-finned fish in the genus Sardinella from the South China Sea in the northwest Pacific.[1]

Size

This species reaches a length of 12.0 cm (4.7 in).[2]

Etymology

The fish is named in honor of Scottish surgeon-naturalist John Richardson (1787–1865).[3]
