Belly with 6 or 7 small needle-like pre-pelvic scutes. Maxilla tip pointed, reaching to or beyond hind border of pre-operculum, the latter concave, indented near maxilla tip. Anal fin short, its origin below about middle of dorsal fin base.

Schooling species occurring in coastal waters (Ref. 189, 75154). Eggs are oval, without a knob. More material and data needed.
