Scales medium-sized, uniformly covered with fine, conical reclined spinules in widely divergent V-shaped rows or quincunx order. Snout with a black margin along its leading edge extending posteriorly onto suborbital shelf, but not over supranarial and median nasal ridges; first dorsal fin uniformly dusky or darker proximally, but lacking a distinct black blotch.

體型延長，側扁。頭部中大。吻短圓鈍。口大，下位，頦下有一長鬚；齒細小，上頜齒多列排成寬齒帶，最外齒列稍擴大，下頜齒為一相當窄之齒帶。
第二棘軟條呈微弱鋸齒狀。體被櫛鱗，鱗棘尖長，密切排列。肛門離臀鰭稍遠，發光器短小，位於兩腹鰭基底之間，約略分為兩部份，前端為黑色小圓斑，後端為黑色裸露之無發光區域，其上有肛門及尿殖孔。體為銀灰色，鼻吻部邊緣有黑色延伸至眶下區邊緣；第一背鰭暗色，無黑色斑紋。
棲地

主要棲息於183-772公尺深泥砂底質，水溫5-7℃的水域。深海底棲性魚類，以小型之多毛類、甲殼類及明蝦為主食。

Hàbitat
És un peix d'aigües profundes que viu entre 183-772 m de fondària, tot i que, normalment, ho fa entre 350-550.[4]
Distribució geogràfica
Es troba a Sud-àfrica, Moçambic, el sud del Japó, Taiwan,[6] el Mar de la Xina Meridional (a prop de Hong Kong),[7][8] les Filipines[9] i Borneo.[4]

The plainfin grenadier (Ventrifossa divergens) is a species of rattail. This is a deep-water fish found at depths of up to 772 m. It has a wide distribution in the Indian and western Pacific Oceans.
This species reaches a length of 30 cm. As suggested by the common name, it has a uniformly dark first dorsal fin, lacking the contrasting blotch seen in many species in the genus. It also has a black margin to its snout.

• Los machos pueden llegar alcanzar los 30 cm de longitud total.[1][2]
Hábitat
Es un pez de aguas profundas que vive entre 183-772 m de profundidad.
Distribución geográfica
Se encuentran en Sudáfrica, Mozambique, el sur del Japón, Taiwán el Mar de la China Meridional (cerca de Hong Kong) las Filipinas y Borneo.
