Female carries her eggs outside her body in a cluster, attached to the genital pore by filaments.

Found in ditches, canals, ponds. Occurs at the surface in habitats with dense growth of aquatic plants. Feeds on small crustaceans, insects and protozoans (Ref. 12693). Non-annual breeder. Is very difficult to maintain in aquarium (Ref. 27139). Not seen in markets (Ref. 12693).

Oryzias javanicus, the Javanese ricefish, is a small species of fish in the family Adrianichthyidae. It lives in Peninsular Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia (Java, Sumatra, Borneo, Sulawesi, Bali and Lombok), where it can be seen in both brackish and fresh water in ponds, ditches, mangrove, swamps, streams and canals.
