Java Medaka

Principal caudal fin rays 5/6.

Female carries her eggs outside her body in a cluster, attached to the genital pore by filaments.

Dorsal soft rays (total): 6 - 7; Analsoft rays: 20 - 25; Vertebrae: 28 - 29

Found in ditches, canals, ponds. Occurs at the surface in habitats with dense growth of aquatic plants. Feeds on small crustaceans, insects and protozoans (Ref. 12693). Non-annual breeder. Is very difficult to maintain in aquarium (Ref. 27139). Not seen in markets (Ref. 12693).
