Biology

Occurs in intertidal algal beds, as well as wharves and pilings. Usually at depths less than 7.5 m. Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail (Ref. 205). Males probably brooding at about 24-25 cm TL.

Stigmatopora macropterygia es una especie de pez de la familia Syngnathidae en el orden de los Syngnathiformes.

Morfología

• Los machos pueden alcanzar 35 cm de longitud total.[1]​[2]​

Reproducción

Es ovovivíparo y el macho transporta los huevos en una bolsa ventral, la cual se encuentra debajo de la cola.[3]​

Hábitat

Es un pez de mar y de clima subtropical.

Distribución geográfica

Es un endemismo de Nueva Zelanda y de las Islas Auckland.
